Drive Thru

While driving through Redlands, California, I found this baby sitting in front of some extensive reconstruction. The Mexican restaurant located underneath it for years was now gone and the wooden frames for its replacement were already in place. Naturally, I succumbed to the temptation to pull over, park, get out and snap away. A couple minutes later as I was walking back to my car, a gentleman with a tense look on his face stepped out from behind a fence and asked, "hey, you there taking pictures - who are you with?"

"I'm with me," I replied with a smile, and I continued walking to my car.

If this piece of Americana is indeed destined for destruction, I'm glad I wandered by and spotted it when I did. And if that man's intent is to eventually take part in the demolition of this beautifully aged sign, as far as I'm concerned he should be on the defensive.
