My grandfather (mom's dad) owned a 1960 Mercedes W111. Purchased in 1963 from Woolpert Motors in Signal Hill, California, it became the prized family car and remained so for three decades. Coming from a generation who had survived the Great Depression, it was just a given to him that you took care of what you had, assuring that it lasted as long as possible. He was like this with everything, but in the case of that old Mercedes, he didn't just maintain her - he pampered her
The Mercedes was sold shortly before his death in the mid 1990s. She wasn't in pristine condition any longer but she was still a beauty. I've always quietly regretted capturing nothing more than a small handful of snapshots of her before she went to her new home. This gallery now exists partly due to that regret, but mostly to aide in my own further exploration of the world of classic cars, and to pay homage to our still evolving automotive history.A special thank you to Christopher Mast for frequently helping me identify make, model & year.
